Personas

« Back to Glossary Index

A persona is a fictional description and encapsulation of a targeted user for a product, service, or experience. A persona is not the profile of a real person, however it should be described and presented as if they were real. Persona content includes a user’s needs, challenges, background information, and fictional demographics. Many times a persona will include the user’s preferences in terms of brand selections or a quote to present a mindset and indicate what is important to them. The objective of a persona is to familiarize the design team to the user and instill understanding and empathy. In some cases, multiple personas are developed to target specific user types.

Note: We advocate using Photos to represent your users instead of illustrations. If you are attempting to emphathize with what is representative of a real person, they should be represnted as such.
